1 – Mim Jensen
Indie/Alt | 10,570 monthly listeners on Spotify
📍Ōtautahi, Aotearoa (NZ)
I’m currently working on a playlist that features only women indie and rock bands and artists. Last night, I stumbled upon Mim Jensen on a little discovery spree through Spotify. After doing some digging, I was not surprised to learn she is from Aotearoa/New Zealand. (With so many amazing musicians coming out of Aotearoa lately, I’m already putting together a separate post dedicated to some of those artists.) Mim released her debut EP, “Emotional Affair,” in August 2023, showcasing the duality of her sound—balancing raw vulnerability with heavier, grunge-inspired elements. Check out her live version of "Only Got Myself” below. It’s a perfect example of her strength as a performer, where Jensen’s voice cuts through the instrumentals, capturing the energy and intimacy that define her music.

2 – Grayling
Indie-Folk Singer/Songwriter | 1,190 monthly listeners on Spotify
📍Glasgow, UK
Glasgow-native Emma Murdoch aka Grayling makes music that’s ethereal, atmospheric, and deeply emotional, blending folk and Americana influences with a cinematic indie feel. I actually just found out she supported The Joy Hotel at a local gig. They are another incredible Glasgow band I’ve talked about before in one of my newsletters—clearly, that city is producing some serious talent. Grayling’s journey began with her debut single, “River Song,” just two years ago, and she followed up with her EP “Cardinal Fire” in May 2024, which was produced by Dan Gautreau. Her inspirations include folk icons of the '60s and ‘70s, like Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Joni Mitchell, as well as contemporary artists such as Courtney Marie Andrews and Julia Jacklin. In an interview about her EP, she said, “Listeners can expect a lot of pedal steel, country-tinged folk, and sad lyrics to cry along to.”

📍 Nottingham, UK
“Choose Divorce and regain control of your life and finances.” When you sign up for Nottingham-based band Divorce, you know you’ll get bluesy riffs, and punchy British humor. Their music is rooted in nostalgic Grunge and Blues sounds, combined with some Alt-Country influences, making Divorce sound very familiar yet like something you’ve never heard before. For them, it’s about the sound, not so much about the genre. Since the four-piece band started making music together in 2021, they have already built a reputation as a must-see live band. I can’t wait to hopefully catch them live in LA soon and get my hands on some “Choose Divorce” merch, too.
