Album: The Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
Happy Decemberists album release day to those who celebrate! If you've ever wondered whether you can listen to a 20-minute song on repeat for an alarming amount of time, the answer is yes. Check out the last song on the album, 'Joan in the Garden.' Thank me later.
has a Substack where you can read all about the band’s process of recording the album.Artist: FIGHTMASTER
I saw Fightmaster live for the first time this week at the Lodge Room Highland Park here in LA. They just released their new 5-track EP last week. If you’re not familiar with their music but are a fan of medical drama series, you may recognize them from Grey’s Anatomy, where they played the show’s first non-binary doctor. I stopped watching the show after season 7ish, so this was a little fun fact for me when I discovered their music and read more about their background. Fightmaster is also their real surname, in case you were wondering. If you like Snail Mail, Lucy Dacus, MUNA, or Chastity Belt, you’re going to love Fightmaster’s music.
Song: Jen Cloher - Annabelle
Staying in the Indie/Alt realm, Naarm (Melbourne)-based singer/songwriter and performer Jen Cloher (Ngāpuhi & Ngāti Kahu) dropped their new song, Annabelle, two weeks ago. The emotional track, which didn’t quite make the cut for their deeply personal and acclaimed 2023 album 'I Am The River, The River Is Me,' offers a critique of empty (white) liberal feminist politics. With this song, Cloher also made their directorial debut. You can watch the music video below.
