🪩 New Music | Sept 13 🪩
It's been a busy week for good music. Here are my new release highlights for the week of 9/9 - 9/13.
Hi friends,
Here are some of my highlights from this week's new releases—Happy Listening!
Fashion Club - Confusion
🗓️ Sept 13, 2024
🎶 Indie/Alt
💿 Single
📍 Los Angeles, US
Similar Vibes: Perfume Genius, ANOHNI, Chelsea Wolfe
Just a month after releasing “Fever,” her collaboration with Perfume Genius, Fashion Club—the solo project of Pascal Stevenson—returns with another standout track, “Confusion.” Best known as a founding member of post-punk band Moaning, Stevenson’s 2022 debut album “Scrutiny” leaned more into 80s goth rock. Her latest releases reveal a beautiful evolution in her sound, blending art-rock, intricate production, and deeper personal themes. Her sophomore album, “A Love You Cannot Shake,” which she’s both producing and mixing herself, is set to drop on October 25.

Ocean LeClair - The Last Man I Loved
🗓️ Sept 10, 2024
🎶 Indie Pop, Art Pop
💿 Single
📍 London, UK
Similar Vibes: Lana Del Rey, Suki Waterhouse, Azure Ryder
I never thought my path in the music industry would one day lead me to managing an artist, but here we are. My TikTok algorithm really worked overtime when it showed me a video with Ocean LeClair’s “Verrückt nach dir.” I dove deeper into her catalog, only to discover that the rest of her music was really nothing like that German Pop song I just heard. With poetic lyrics and ethereal vocals, Ocean’s discography is more of a dreamlike collection of nostalgia and introspection. It’s the kind of music that makes you pause and reflect, with each song creating a soft space to get lost in your thoughts. I decided to reach out to her to learn more about her story. “The Last Man I Loved” is the first single we’re officially working on together, and I’m so excited to be part her journey.

Nemahsis - coloured concrete
🗓️ Sept 13, 2024
🎶 Indie Pop
💿 Album
📍 Toronto, CA
Similar Vibes: Arlo Parks, Raveena
I’ve written about Palestinian-Canadian artist Nemahsis before, and I’m so excited that her debut album, “Verbathim”, is finally out. Once again, we’re treated to an Amy Gardner and Norman Wong-directed video for "Spinning Plates," a testament to the power of visual storytelling and a reminder that music videos are still very much alive and essential in today’s music.

Bad Moves - Wearing Out The Refrain
🗓️ Sept 13, 2024
🎶 Bubblegrunge, Indie/Alt
📍 Washington, D.C., US
💿 Album
Similar Vibes: Mannequin Pussy, Slow Pulp, The Beths
It’s always a telltale sign of good music when a band has great merch. Bad Moves is one of them. The Washington, D.C.-based quartet sits somewhere between power pop, punk, and indie rock. And somehow, they made me feel very nostalgic about the music I was listening to as a teenager, like Melissa Auf der Maur or The Distillers. The band has been around since 2016, and “Wearing Out The Refrain” is their third studio album.

🗓️ Sept 13, 2024
🎶 Alt-Pop

Similar Vibes: U.S. Girls, TORRES
This is the most Sinéad O'Connor song Miya Folick has ever recorded, and I’m absolutely here for it.

More music out this week:
Cass McCombs drops a surprise album, “Seed Cake On Leap Year”, Nilüfer Yanya releases her highly anticipated “My Method Actor,” and a new single from Thaïs Rey.
Check out the Rare Originals Playlist on Spotify and Apple Music.
Some great songs, cheers! Liking that Bad Moves track, Hallelujah. Modern rock n' roll with influences seemingly taken from Status Quo or Primal Scream but with enough of an edge to still be new and interesting.
